Is there a difference between usb and usb 2.0?

There's a very cool-looking external cd-rw on sale over at overstock.com:

http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=570145

The only problem is: It says USB 2.0. I have a relatively old laptop
(almost 3 years now.) So I'm worried that my usb ports aren't the latest.

I've read all over the laptop docs, and they just say "usb" w/o a version
number. I also looked over the faq on usb.org, and it also doesn't mention
anything about different versions.

Are there differnent usb versions? Is this something to worry about? Many
thanks for any help--
