XP won't boot after Linux install

Hi all,

I've installed Linux on my IBM Thinkpad R40 using parted 1.6.5 to shrink
the ~50gb Windows (FAT32) partition, and lilo boots Linux fine, but XP
won't boot. It gives a UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME message and then reboots.
I ran a search and found a MS support article suggesting that I run chkdsk
from a recovery console, so I did that and got "chkdsk found one or more
unrecoverable errors." Dosfsck finds no problems with the partition, and
neither does Win98 scandisk. (I can access the Windows files okay under
Linux.) Anyone have any suggestions or pointers to a better place to ask
this?

Thanks,
