cdr, device names, and ide-scsi

Can a cdr use a device named hd[x] and use scsi emulation, or does it have to use a sdc[n] device?

If it has to use a sdc[n] device, why does it show up as using a hd[x] device in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf?
