converting Compuserve to mbox (or maildir)

A friend of mine somehow trashed his compuserve mail directory and is
unable to use the compuserve tools to recover his email, but I have
verified that his email messages are still in the proprietary data file.
I was looking around for some utility that could convert the proprietary
data file to mbox, mh, maildir or some other format. Otherwise, I can
write a script or C program to do it myself.

My friend is using Windows 95, and most everything else he has is MS-DOS
based including Word Perfect. I might want to talk him into Linux since
just about everything he uses could work under DOSEMU, but that is
another subject.
