It's small, expensive, easy to resell and hard to trace. And more people are comfortable popping in more memory than swapping out processors. It's probably a problem with online dealers as well, but it's going to pass through more hands at a retailer. But -- on the original topic -- I suppose you could try a PC show. There's one in Marlborough on the weekend of November 11th. With so many vendors in one place the prices are usually pretty competitive, although I haven't priced memory lately.
