As much as I hate to suggest it, you might try a commercial product called SpinRite. It has been around for years. Gibson Research sells it and it supports Linux and the other set of file systems. http://www.grc.com/spinrite Just a satisfied customer (it pulled mine out of a crack more than once!) -- *NIX is User Friendly ... It is just picky about who its friends are!
