Regarding "use the Linux Terminal Server Client":

Unless that friend's server is a terminal server, you'd need an
administrator account.  Only accounts with administrative rights can
log into a non-TS server via that protocol, and then only two at a
time.  Are you as free in giving out root passwords as this would seem
to sound?
