HP JetDirect printer and foomatic

I have an HP 4M Plus printer, with an older JetDirect card. It's
currently working with various flavors of Windoze, and is connected only
to my lan.

I'd appreciate help to install it on Debian Sarge: the foomatic options
suggest using a URL like ipp://192.168.1.2, but I can't send a test page
after configuring it that way.

All suggestions welcome.
