I've made my decision: buy another used Inspiron 8200. Basically, new laptops with 1600x1200 or better screens are just plain expensive -- on Egghead, I saw nothing less than $2300. I found an I8200 on eBay with an ATI Radeon 9000 graphics adapter (which appears to be fully supported by the free Radeon driver) for $500. Even if this fails in a couple of years, I'm still doing well. Those things are holding a surprising amount of value, considering how low base model laptop prices are -- a very low end I8200 sold last night for over $300. I probably could have gotten one for a bit less if I waited, but I decided that it wasn't worth it. The seller has excellent feedback and ships very quickly. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
