playing iso from disk?

If the DVD is encrypted with CSS, then you can't simply dd it.
However, you can decrypt the VOB files using some tools.  I usually
don't rip the entire DVD, and instead use something like dvd::rip to
encode to XviD.  You can try anything that implements the DeCSS
algorithm to get the VOB files decrypted.  Or you can try k9copy...
