I have had this problem many times in the past. If its ram, it would usually issue a beep code, telling you that it is ram that is the problem, with the cpu or motherboard as the problem, it would pretty much do just as you've said. At this point what you can do is try swapping components. I would be willing to say that it isn't video, but if you have any video card lying around, just pop it in and that should quickly narrow that one down. The problem is your motherboard most likely doesn't have an AGP port, and those cards are probably the most common right now, and the most likely to be laying around. Hopefully you have a pci videocard lying around. I doubt it is video, because on some motherboards, you get a single beep from the POST routine to tell you that everything is running fine. This is dependent on having a working speaker though. Again, Newegg is probably the fastest way to find out and the easiest if you don't have a bunch of components lying around. At this point, I would say try the ram in another machine and RMA the board back to Newegg. -Keith -----Original Message----- From: discuss-bounces-mNDKBlG2WHs at public.gmane.org [mailto:discuss-bounces-mNDKBlG2WHs at public.gmane.org] On Behalf Of Derek Atkins Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2007 4:58 PM To: Dan Ritter Cc: dsr-copies-mzpnVDyJpH4k7aNtvndDlA at public.gmane.org; discuss-mNDKBlG2WHs at public.gmane.org Subject: Re: Testing a bad mobo/CPU/power-supply? I'm worried that I might be one of them, which means I have to wait until next week to deal with this. :( > -dsr- -derek -- Derek Atkins, SB '93 MIT EE, SM '95 MIT Media Laboratory Member, MIT Student Information Processing Board (SIPB) URL: http://web.mit.edu/warlord/ PP-ASEL-IA N1NWH warlord-DPNOqEs/LNQ at public.gmane.org PGP key available -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss-mNDKBlG2WHs at public.gmane.org http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
