Mounting is the equivalent of Windows' If you mean less user effort, try the automounter. There are two in widespread use. Here are instructions for autofs: http://www.builderau.com.au/program/linux/soa/Automount-filesystems-with-flexible-AutoFS-tool/0,339028299,339278033,00.htm and here for amd: http://www.zdnetasia.com/techguide/opensource/0,39044899,61995718,00.htm Both create a special directory such that when you access a file in that directory, the appropriate filesystem is mounted auto-magically.
