Download SystemRescueCD, set the VM to boot off the .iso image, 
then perform the dd operation in the booted window drive..  At 
least I'm assuming here that C: and D: are both "virtual disks".. 

I still don't see what you're trying to do here; you could just 
"copy" the disk image files around..
