I thought all that went away a few years ago (for over the air
programming)? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_flag
And actually -- if it were to come back then that'd be a reason to
buy a HDTV(-tuner) now rather than later (for example a pcHDTV card).
On the HDTV you'll want HDMI input with HDCP to be sure to be able to
take DRM-enabled input from HD-DVDs, cable tuners and such. Some
time ago many displays didn't support HDCP yet, but I think it's
pretty standard now...
In any case - for OTA programming now is a just fine time to buy.
In my opinion:
If you watch TV at all you should get a HDTV. The difference is as
the difference between a PC-speaker ("beep beep") and a proper hi-fi
system.
