---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Richard E Smith <[hidden email]> Date: Oct 26, 2007 9:24 PM Subject: Fw: ubuntu problem To: [hidden email] I have been running 'feisty fawn' quite reliably for some time and had begun with v:6.06 LTS from CD back in the beginning. Problem: Today I received a upgrade to 'Gutsy Gibbon' v 7.10 message and because of all of the hype, I went ahead and started the upgrade foolishly. During the upgrade it asked me if I wanted to remove current settings so I said yes. The Installation finished and started the reboot. Everything looked good right up through "Grub 2". The orange ubuntu logo screen came up and started the orange loading line under it and than it seemed to freeze. The screen cleared after a short time and came up with BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu7) Built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initranfs) - I typed 'help'/enter and got a list of commands similar to those I am so familiar with from early versions of 'dos' command lines. However this being a derivative of UNIX I am out in the cold. Can I recover from this? Or should I reformat and send for / or download the CD and reinstall. Or go back to 'Feisty Fawn' and wait for better days? If you can't help maybe you could direct me to someone who could? Help, Dick Smith PS: Machine is a Pentium III, 450Mhz, with 384 M of ram. (wife's machine).
