I've used both netBSD, FreeBSD, Linux, and other various *nixes, and feel that there are often specific reasons to use each of them. netBSD used to have something like a 6-month release schedule for updates (*I don't know if that's changed or not), which was nice from the standpoint of administration, but not always best when there was a critical flaw. RedHat on the other hand has far too many updates, and it would be nice if they did _better_ patching and fewer updates just for the sake of updates. Regardless of the arguments, you should probably put together a list of requirements for your OS, as well as things you'd like to see, and then choose from there. Make sure to account for all of the life-cycle, as I just ran an update from RHEL4 to RHEL5 and it was relatively painful.
