My machine (refurb) came with XP Media Center Edition (but no hardware accessories) and Realtek audio software. Afaik, inserting a headphone plug (called a "jack" by Realtek) into the frent-panel jack cuts off audio to the rear output jack. Not much help, but, at least, related. I suspect that software-switched audio takes advantage of very low-cost electronic analog switches; no need for relays. (My audio is probably handled by an NVidia chip; MSI motherboard.)
