This may be one of those "broken as designed" things--there's no 
guarantee that you'll receive email in the order that it's sent.  Heck, 
there's barely any guarantee that you'll receive it at all. :-) 

I've occasionally noticed that I receive short messages before long 
ones--maybe the mailer on the sending end or the spam filter on the 
receiving end is processing the shorter ones faster.
