I have a customer who requires that their data be destroyed when we're done with it. On Windows laptops, they require us to use PGP Desktop's shredder functionality. Four our ftp server, they're still undecided. They did tell us we cannot put their data on our normal customer ftp server due to caching in LVM and RAID. I've found that GNU coreutils has a "shred" command, and there's also a "wipe" package available, also a GNU tool. Then there are some commercial alternatives such as BCWipe - http://www.jetico.com Unishred Pro - http://www.lat.com What do these commercial alternatives provide that the GNU tools don't? I've examined their websites, and I haven't found anything to help me understand the differences. -- John Abreau / Executive Director, Boston Linux & Unix IM: [hidden email] / abreauj@AIM / abreauj@Yahoo / zusa_it_mgr@Skype Email [hidden email] / WWW http://www.abreau.net / PGP-Key-ID 0xD5C7B5D9 PGP-Key-Fingerprint 72 FB 39 4F 3C 3B D6 5B E0 C8 5A 6E F1 2C BE 99 -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
