I have a customer who requires that their data be destroyed when
we're done with it. On Windows laptops, they require us to use
PGP Desktop's shredder functionality.
Four our ftp server, they're still undecided. They did tell us
we cannot put their data on our normal customer ftp server
due to caching in LVM and RAID.
I've found that GNU coreutils has a "shred" command, and there's
also a "wipe" package available, also a GNU tool. Then there are
some commercial alternatives such as
BCWipe - http://www.jetico.com
Unishred Pro - http://www.lat.com
What do these commercial alternatives provide that the GNU tools
don't? I've examined their websites, and I haven't found anything
to help me understand the differences.
