I upgraded my laptop to Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) the other day. I had 3 non-problems: 1. Network manager does not connect to my home network (WEP 128). The problem here was that the upgrade did not copy the bcm43xx firmware. The 2.6.24 kernel needs a different version. Solution download and install bc43-fwcutter version 011. This is done automatically by Synaptic. Once I downloaded and installed this using a wired connection, wireless came up immediately. Note that there is a URL included in the kernel driver message when it fails to find the firmware pointing to linuxwireless.org that provides instructions on how tomanually install the firmware. 2. Sudo gives me a message "unable to resolve host gaflap". Just needed to add a parameter to /etc/hosts. 3. Firefox. The 32-bit firefox stopped working, but both firefox 2 and firefox 3 beta 5 were installed. So far, what I have seen of Ubuntu has been excellent. I still use SuSE on my desktop system at home. -- -- Jerry Feldman <[hidden email]> Boston Linux and Unix PGP key id: 537C5846 PGP Key fingerprint: 3D1B 8377 A3C0 A5F2 ECBB CA3B 4607 4319 537C 5846 _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
