Thanks much for the history lesson, I lived on the west coast until 
about 2 years ago, blissfully ignorant of anything Verizon may or may 
not have done in the past. Until very recently, the only Verizon 
presence in Seattle was as a cell phone provider (FiOS is in the Seattle 
area now too).

See, now, I have a friend with a T1 line in rural Washington, who would 
*love* to get FiOS if it were available there -- I pay about 1/5 what he 
does for more than 13x the incoming bandwidth and more than 3x the 
outgoing bandwidth. If someone like speakeasy were an option, I'd 
consider them, but I think I'll stick with FiOS for now, despite their 
questionable actions... :)
