A problem installing Kubuntu 8.04 desktop

 At last Wednesday's BLU meeting, I mentioned a problem I had installing 
Kubuntu 8.04 desktop: after a while, for no apparent reason, my laptop 
powered down on its own.  This shutdown occurred twice while the 
installation dvd was still running.  Then, I tried an installation CD, 
and succeeded in getting the system loaded, but after a while again, it 
powered down on its own. 

Jerry suggested checking the power-saving settings, and he was right! 
The system came with the default settings of power saving enabled and 
with the monitor set to switch off after 45 minutes.  HOW DUMB!!!!!!! 

I disabled power saving, and the problem is solved.
