A Nokia N800 should be able to do this, as should just about any other small portable hardware that's hackable. I have my N810 hacked to have a "sleep timer" such that it shuts down 30 minutes after the last UI interaction. An N800 can be found for about $150. An N770 would probably work too, and I'd guess can be found for under $100. I've heard iPods can be hacked to run Linux. If they have a microphone, you can probably get an old one for cheap. A Nintendo DS Lite is another possible platform. It has a mic, been hacked to run Linux, and can be found used for about $80. > ...would the better option be something like a dedicated digital > voice recorder? Given what you want doesn't sound that unusual, that's where I'd start. You may find that recorders that support such a features ends up costing more than the other options, but will avoid the hack effort. -Tom -- Tom Metro Venture Logic, Newton, MA, USA "Enterprise solutions through open source."
