Hi Eric, It looks to me like they wanted to put in a bunch of links back to whatever they're promoting. I'm assuming you're talking about that set of links in the hidden <ul> tag. PageRank, Google's algorithm, uses a link to see what sites are important - think of it as a referral but go ahead and look up more details - so in this case it looks like they've hacked the site to quietly insert some links back to them thereby helping their SEO... Anyway, that's my take, Jared ----- Original Message ---- From: Eric <[hidden email]> To: BLU <[hidden email]> Sent: Sunday, June 8, 2008 3:47:19 PM Subject: (another) website cracked hi all. i've been asked to update a friend of a friend's website. i log in and start peaking around. appears to be a simple static site. so i'm thinking i'll whip up something dynamic and easy for hist staff to update. a chance to fiddle around with php. so i look at the source of his index page, not that i'm going to use this frontpage generated crap but just to look. it appears his site has been cracked. see excelstrength.com. look on line number 26. before i douche this site my question to the group is, how are the crackers using this? thanks for any insight, eric c. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
