Verizon FIOS :-(

 My mother has Verizon FIOS for phone and TV (because her building is 
wired).  One problem she has is when she calls a friend who also lives 
in Newton (same area code), her friend's phone does not ring. Her 
friend's phone rings when other call her. My mother has had technicians 
out on both ends. One Verizon tech told her that it is because "she has 
fibre and her friend has copper".  So, now FIOS users can't call copper 
users :-) 

She got a great deal from Verizon, but she is now thinking of going 
back to Comcast where she had excellent phone service, although I saw 
that Comcast had an outage in Salem yesterday.
