Not totally about linux, but I will be using Linux utils to do this. I've got a new laptop that currently has Vista on it. Because of licensing issues I've seen in the past, where you can only reimage a few times before you end up having to call MS, I'd like to take a snapshot of the HD to an attached USB drive before I do anything with the laptop. I'd like it to be able to use it as a complete restore including the MBR if necessary. Can I do this with a bootable linux distro and dd? I've used dd for mirroring one hard drive to another when setting up multiple linux servers that I wanted alike. I'm assuming that this would be the same, but the laptop drive and the USB drive are different sizes and types. -- -matt -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
