I'm currently starting to evaluate getting a new desktop system. I currently have an older Compaq Presario with an Athalon 1.2Ghz 32-bit processor. I would prefer buying it from a vendor that supports OpenSource and Linux. Certainly I want a 64-bit processor with dual core and a decent 3D graphics chipset. No preference on chip vendor (Intel or AMD). I would probably run either OpenSuSe 11.0 (which is what I now have) or Ubuntu, but Fedora is fine too. (I prefer using a different OS from the other BLU officers just for a different perspective and also for installfests). I'm looking for experience with vendors, such as MadTux, Penguin (our next speaker), Eight Virtues, etc. I certainly could build one from scratch, but the last one I did took me quite a long time and was more expensive than what I could buy retail. I'll probably not make any decisions until August. -- -- Jerry Feldman <[hidden email]> Boston Linux and Unix PGP key id: 537C5846 PGP Key fingerprint: 3D1B 8377 A3C0 A5F2 ECBB CA3B 4607 4319 537C 5846 _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
