Mostly (agree). I think if anything is to 'blame' for the success, 
it's the Open Source model itself. It was more 'by chance' that he 
happened to come up with a rather-good kernel when he did. I don't 
think this makes him a 'genius' or anything of the sort. From what I 
know and just read, he seems like a fairly smart man who is 
certifiably 'sane'. 

But I do agree with you on how stuff like this is almost 'luck of the 
draw' rather than by timely intervention/creation by a 'genius'.
