To be fair to the TV makers, it's possible that they're just trying to avoid the expense of including A/D circuitry capable of 1920x1080 resolution. But yes, it's something to watch out for if you want to use your big screen TV as a computer display and have a computer that doesn't have a high-resolution digital output (DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort). If you want to put a Blu-Ray drive in your PC and watch high-resolution movies you'll need a video card with HDCP capability because the Blu-Ray software will refuse to work otherwise (it's a licensing requirement). And sadly that also means that you won't be watching Blu-Ray movies on your Linux system for now.
