As they point out in their FAQ, it doesn't really guarantee your data; it just makes it possible to recover your data if you catch it shortly after it starts to fail. Without something like dvdisaster, you basically have to guess at when a disc is likely to fail, and copy its data before that occurs. With dvdisaster and a careful routine of verifying your discs at routine intervals, you can wait until a disc begins to fail, and create a new copy at that point. The routine media verification is essential, otherwise you're likely to miss the window of opportunity where there's still enough redundancy to recover the data from the failing disc. -- John Abreau / Executive Director, Boston Linux & Unix AIM abreauj / JABBER jabr-iMZfmuK6BGBxLiRVyXs8+g at public.gmane.org / YAHOO abreauj / SKYPE zusa_it_mgr Email jabr-mNDKBlG2WHs at public.gmane.org / WWW http://www.abreau.net / PGP-Key-ID 0xD5C7B5D9 PGP-Key-Fingerprint 72 FB 39 4F 3C 3B D6 5B E0 C8 5A 6E F1 2C BE 99
