Amazon S3 and rsync snapshots?

I've started playing with Amazon S3, and I've had no luck trying to
verify whether it's possible to do the equivalent of rsync snapshots.
I want to minimize both the total S3 storage space used and the
total upload bandwidth used during each nightly backup session,
and it would be nice if each nightly snapshot view would show
all files in the snapshot while also only storing one copy of each
identical file. Rsync snapshots do a good job of this.

Is this possible with Amazon S3? Does the s3sync tool provide
this functionality?
