test a DVD burner

Does anyone have a suggestion of how to test a DVD burner.  I recently
purchased a 100 pack of R+DVDs.  I am having problems burning to them.  I
can burn to  CDs OK.  Every now an then I can burn to a DVD but in general I
am having problems and don't know if I bought a bad bunch of DVDs or if my
burner is on the blink.  Is there a way to test the device.
