Personally, back in then 1970s I was under the impression that=20 magnetic disk drives were on the verge of being replaced, but they never = came up with a decent reliable technology and price per byte. Now, with=20 netbook type devices, blades, space, density, power management, and=20 heat, I think there is pressure on the drive makers to come out with=20 solid state replacements for mechanical drives. Whether this is just=20 wishful thinking or reality I don't know. Certainly there is a significant difference in the requirements of a=20 portable device, such as a netbook or laptop than there is for a high=20 density data center.
