http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=3D20091111094923390 Basically, according to PJ, this is a personalized version. Most of use use the sudo(8) command frequently, and Debian and derivatives no longer allow direct root access. Before sudo(8) became part of most distros, many Unix users simply wrote their own tool to become super user for a short time. It's been a while, but if I recall, VMS also had a similar way that authorized users could acquire privileges. I would love to see Microsoft sue the Linux community on this one, especially since tools like Sudo were essentially in use before there was a Microsoft.
