I had a similar problem with Chrome. In Gnome, when you choose to make Chrome your default browser using the pop-up dialogue, it will create a "custom" entry in your preferred applications. This custom entry isn't set up correctly and ignores any URLs passed from other applications. If you go into preferred applications and change the drop-down to "Chrome", it should hopefully start working (assuming you're using Gnome).
