webcam won't?

I am trying to get  Logitech webcam 9000
to capture video under linux (ubuntu 9.04)

The usb driver does recognize the camera as a video source,
but I cannot get any programs to work with the camera.

Has anyone on this list successfully used
a webcam with linux?

If so, how did you get it to work (or was
it just plug-in and play?)?
