I did as you suggested. They do provide for non network 
email connections. They are not on an alternate port nor are 
they encrypted connections, but neither is their current 
service. So I had them switch it on.
It works, the problem I find is that I have to swithch back 
to the network config when I am on network. I'm sure there 
is a way to make it transparent for me but I have not 
figured it out yet.
