Before tossing the router, you might try switching to another wireless channel. I've seen that make a difference in more than one home installation with flaky reception. If you have an Android phone, there's a nifty little free app called Wifi Analyzer that shows you a graphical view of channel (over)utilizaton in your area and also tests signal strength, but of course you could figure this out by trial and error, too.
