The I'm sure you're aware of a bunch of direct competitors of spider oak - dropbox, sugarsync, box.net, etc... But they all require you pay for service over a certain level. Have you considered crashplan pro? They have a free version (or something free) which allows you to backup your computer A onto your computer B and vice-versa ... Could even be your friend's computer and vice-versa, or a work computer (if that won't get you in trouble with work). Since you're not using any of crashplanpro's storage, it's unlimited and free. Suitable for backups, but not quite the same concept as the above mentioned products ... It's not a multi-computer sync. It's a backup. One-way backup where the data is stored on your friend's computer, but not in a directly accessible format. Or so I'm told. I haven't actually used it myself personally. But everyone I know who does use it, they all highly praise it.
