A couple of years ago, the Regus office we are in "upgraded" from their 4Mbps symmetrical to a higher speed bandwidth. All well and good, but they also limited clients to 2Mbps symmetrical. Not only that, they changed their backbone provider. Their former backbone provider was AT&T that had a very low latency, at least in the traceroutes I did. Their new backbone provider, Level 3, had terrible latency. All traffic went through a Cincinnati hub, then to Chicago, and both places contributed to the latency. At that point we talked to RCN. instead of signing an agreement with RCN directly, (we would have had to get our corporate IT involved) we had Regus contract with RCN. At that time they had a special where they would give us 2 DOCSIS 2 cable modems for the price of one. They finally rolled out DOCSIS 3 in Newton this year and we upgraded one of the modems to DOCSIS 3 (60Mbs/20Mbs) and Regus assigned the second modem to another company who was complaining about the horrible Regus network. Our facility here only has fibre for RCN, our choices would be to pay Regus an exorbitant amount for additional bandwidth (with big latencies), dedicated T1, or RCN. However, we still pay Regus for 1 office line for a case if RCN goes down. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf at blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix PGP key id:3BC1EB90 PGP Key fingerprint: 49E2 C52A FC5A A31F 8D66 C0AF 7CEA 30FC 3BC1 EB90
