There are already enough open source projects that are supported by non-volunteers. If you'd argue this way, you would probably also argue against the use of electricity in your house, as it kills people when abused. Yet, people are still using it and cannot get rid of it in any meaningful way. Why not ask everyone to power off their computers to save the earth? You don't need to buy in anything if you don't want to. Google has been reacting to patent threats by owning more patents. If the open source decides to continually sailing their carriers without escorts, that's perfectly fine with me. HYC
