The latest Debian Project News newsletter points out that Debian was the top pick for "Server Distribution of the Year" in the 2011 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Results: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/2011mca.php Debian was closely followed by Slackware, both getting over 25%. Then CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu LTS, and others. (I knew Slackware was still around, but I didn't think it had much market share. What is the claimed advantage, or is it primarily used by those that "grew up" with it in the 90's?) Most of the questions in the LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice survey have 400 to 600 responses, which should be statistically significant, even if not scientific. Some other interesting results: Desktop Distribution of the Year http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/2011-linuxquestions-org-members-choice-awards-95/desktop-distribution-of-the-year-919878/ 22% Ubuntu 22% Slackware 13% Debian 11% Linux Mint 8% Arch 7% Fedora (Is LinuxQuestions.org a Slackware hangout?) Desktop Environment of the Year http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/2011-linuxquestions-org-members-choice-awards-95/desktop-environment-of-the-year-919888/ 33% KDE 28% Xfce 19% Gnome Shell 7% LXDE 5% Unity 3% MATE (Clearly not a main stream crowd...) -Tom -- Tom Metro Venture Logic, Newton, MA, USA "Enterprise solutions through open source."
