Title: Sr. Unix and Storage Administrator Job Description & Required Skill Set Responsibilities: Serve as member of the Unix and Storage Administration team in managing the day-to-day operations of the company's computer environment and periodic project execution. The selected candidate will be responsible for problem analysis and trouble-shooting tasks that might involve system tuning, including kernel compilation and tuning system parameters for optimal performance and security. Demonstrate an ability to make decisions that ensure quick resolution of events and to provide recommendations and expertise to enhance system performance and availability. Plan and perform installation, upgrades and patches to Unix OS. Demonstrated customer service skills and expertise in communicating with internal and external customers about the extent of an issue and a realistic timeline for resolution. Candidate must be prepared to provide status reports and follow-ups to the customer about their ongoing issues. Backup/restore and data protection systems (EMC Networker) - develop procedures for backup and restore of the Unix operations system and databases. Perform capacity planning and make recommendations. This job also requires the selected candidate to carry a pager/phone to provide on-call support work for a 24X7 prodution environment. Requirements: Strong experience in a complex 24X7 environment. Advanced knowledge of Veritas Foundation Suite. Clustering experience, including experience using SANs with shared file-systems and dedicated hardware load balancing. Experience implementing a layered approach to network and host based security. Basic TCP/IP networking knowledge needed. Strong shell scripting experience a must. Strong experience working with Sun Solaris and Linux is required. Extensive in-depth knowledge of EMC SAN and NAS. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral. Can-do attitude in daily operations duties and trouble-shooting issues. Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to work flexible hours as needed. Experience with Oracle, Netezza, and in a Telephony environment are a plus. Must have at least 3 years of experience as a Sr. level Unix Systems Administrator and experience supporting Production, Development, and QA systems.
