http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20120620140533395 There were a number of issues in the case including copyright infringement (that Google admitted to), software patent issues. They are now in a hearing and it appears that Google is winning big time. The most interesting comment is from Oracle's attorney, Michael Jacobs (Morrison-Forster): Oracle v. Google Hearing 2012-06-20 10:55 clerk comes in and hands out the draft order. Jacobs looks at it, shakes his head, and says "Jesus" under his breath. Both parties looking intently over it. Google's team sits down, Oracle's still gathered, looking grim. Van Nest conferring with Christa Anderson and short-cropped young red-headed lawyer. Slight smile from Ms. Anderson. We might remember Michael Jacobs as one of the brilliant attorneys working for Novell. Robert Van Nest (Keker & Van Nest, LLP) is the lead attorney for Google. While Google won big, Oracle will most likely appeal all the way up to SCOTUS. This case really, IMHO, is not truly relevant to Linux, but the underlying issues is how Oracle patented the APIs. This is possibly why this case might go all the way up the ladder, but Google may also want to settle rather than spend all that money fighting in court. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf at blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix PGP key id:3BC1EB90 PGP Key fingerprint: 49E2 C52A FC5A A31F 8D66 C0AF 7CEA 30FC 3BC1 EB90
