when I execute the following?
echo "Un!sphere8" >> '/user/filename.txt'
I get this message
bash: !sphere875": event not found. ?unusual, it takes the "Un" from the error given.

Sounds like you just want to append.

echo "text to append" >> filename.txt

a single > overwrites the file.? double > appends to the end of the file.
