I am not aware of anything on either android or iphone that I would call a "full backup." I have also been burned by "backing up" the iPad, only to discover it didn't do jack. On android, if you have root, you can use titanium backup. It will backup all your apps & app configs. But as far as I know, nothing can backup the actual android state - layout of your homescreen etc, knowledge of wifi etc, google/exchange/whatever account usernames & pass, etc. I only know how to backup apps (requires root) and files from sdcard (doesn't require root.) on android.
