[Discuss] Fedora 18 to get MATE desktop

The headline makes it sound more significant than it is. They're just
adding the MATE (http://mate-desktop.org/) package to the repository.
Not making it a default desktop (unlike Linux Mint). But still, it is
more momentum behind this non-GNOME 3 option.

A Fedora developer has proposed adding the packages for the MATE
Desktop Environment - a fork of the older 2.x branch of GNOME - into
the repositories for Fedora 18, which is due for release in early
November. The proposal was approved at yesterday's meeting of Fedora's
  Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo).
