Installing *anything* recent on a system so many revisions out of date will likely take much more than minimal effort. The current revision, Fedora 17, comes with samba 3.6.1 and in a couple of months, Fedora 18 is expected to ship with samba 4. A pre-release version of samba4 is available for Fedora 17.
