[Discuss] VM backups

All this talk of VMs, has me wondering how folks backup their VMs,
specifically VMware without vcenter/vsphere.
I have a need to backup a couple hundred VMs (.vmdk files) on a weekly
basis in the event of a meltdown and at the same time incremental file
level backups. IBM's TSM VE tool seems ... cumbersome to restore single
files to the original VM.
What are folks using to address corporate backup/restore requirements?
Thanks.
