I tried TrueCrypt a couple of years ago and found it a little buggy on some systems. Maybe I just had bad luck. Aren't they undergoing a code review right now? The whole disk encryption I've used on Ubuntu worked great FWIW. It was an option during install. Start up is a little slower but once running I noticed no difference on a mid level laptop.
